Pipeline sump tanks are a vital part of a facility’s plan for Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) in the oil and gas pipeline industry. 

These pipeline sump tanks are built to a 5:1 safety factor against buckling and can be custom-built with a wide array of manway openings & extensions, fittings, and monitoring systems to meet your site parameters. These double-wall tanks come with a standard 30-year warranty against internal and external corrosion and structural. 1 year warranty for material defects and workmanship, providing a long life cycle asset that is manufactured to last. By using the highest quality materials, these tanks perform structurally and limit internal corrosion from caustic and heavy by-products captured in pipeline applications.

In addition, these tanks are built to the requirements of “ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 1316:2018 Fibre Reinforced Underground Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids”, commonly referred to as “UL 1316”. 

Effective Pipeline Sump Tank Systems For When You Need It Most

Pipeline Sump Tanks are underground double wall catchment tanks that are part of a facility’s SPCC plan for Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure. These fiberglass double-wall underground tanks are typically located in oil and gas pipelines, processes, or refinery facilities for crude oil and natural gas. These applications include Pig Launcher / Receiving Stations and LACT / Lease Automatic Custody Transfer Skids.  These lightweight and 100% watertight tanks can be custom designed and manufactured with an assortment of manways, piping, pump-outs, and monitoring accessories to fit your specific site needs.

FTS DW tanks are built to UL 1316 standard which includes a 5:1 safety factor against buckling. That standard includes requirements for tank structural integrity, material compatibility with stored liquids, protection against leakage, and ability to withstand external pressure. The design of the tanks manufactured to meet UL 1316 standards are qualified and certified by UL as having met the standard, and the tanks can be shipped with a label confirming compliance. Although SPCC tanks do not require the UL label, the tanks are designed, built and tested to the UL1316 Standard for reassurance.

How we manufacture our tanks

C-Veil Layer – A 100 -120 mil, high-density fiberglass layer with a resin-rich interior surface. Provides a 100% protection and wearable layer for corrosion resistance.

  • Chopped tank only provides a non-reinforced interior flood coat which can flake and peel.

Chop Layer – Provides structural strength to the C-veil protective liner.

  • Chopped-only tanks do not use a protective, wearable, C-Veil. Chopped-only tanks leave a hollow fiber matrix that is exposed to the liquid, creating a straw effect for corrosive liquids to penetrate the tank’s inner wall.

Helical Winding – A structural layer of the tank’s inner wall’s construction, using continuous strand fiberglass to provide both horizontal and longitudinal strength. Continuous strands are not prone to the wicking effect as compared to chopped strand tanks.

  • Chopped-only tanks provide a weaker design in both horizontal and longitudinal strength.

3-D 4.5 MM Fiberglass Interstitial Profile. This layer provides a honeycomb layer to communicate while providing an I-Beam structural component, bonding both the inner and outer walls of the tank.

  • Chopped-only tanks may use mylar films which provide very little interstitial space and have no structural connection between the inner and outer tank walls.

Helical Winding – Another structural layer of the tank’s outer wall’s construction, using continuous strand fiberglass to provide both horizontal and longitudinal strength.
Trapezoidal Structural Ribs – Providing strength, supporting horizontal soil and traffic load, along with upthrust from high groundwater conditions.
Resin Rich Layer – Provides corrosion protection to the tank from exterior soil and groundwater conditions.
